Why Video Content is The New Way to Connect with Your Fans on Instagram
Do More On Instagram With Reels, Stories and Live.
Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, recently announced a change that will see the platform prioritizing video content, stating that it was “no longer a photo-sharing app”.
Instagram already held a position as a powerful channel for video storytelling, but recent changes have intensified the effort towards this. Let’s explore how you can use video content on Instagram to connect more deeply with your fans, bringing them into your world while promoting your music.
Videos on Instagram
As an artist, it’s important to make videos on Instagram work for you. Maximize reach by using all the video surfaces available on the platform, and then use Insights to gain a deeper understanding of what content is helping you grow.
Video content is available in four formats on Instagram: Reels, Live, Stories, and Instagram Video.
Let’s take a closer look at these :

Instagram Video
The new Instagram Video merges what was once IGTV’s long-form videos with in-feed videos. As for how long Instagram Videos can be, video length was previously limited to 60 seconds, however in the rebrand all videos will have the option to run for up to 60 minutes. Additionally, all videos live under one Video tab on users’ profiles and incorporate editing features, such as trimming, filters and location tagging.
Meanwhile, when users encounter videos on Instagram, they’ll be able to tap anywhere on the video to enter into a full screen viewing mode. After watching, they can then choose to keep scrolling to discover more video content from creators or tap the back button to exit.
This is a great bonus for those who already create video content for YouTube or Facebook. Repurposing your videos for the platform takes minimal effort and now there are plenty of opportunities to cross-post your videos on Instagram as well.
To help you fully understand how your videos are performing, Instagram merged feed post insights and video insights into one combined metric for businesses and creators.
Reels
Instagram Reels allows you to create and share short, engaging videos that are up to 60 seconds long. Found in their own dedicated tab on the platform, Reels are the most effective format for reaching new audiences.
When creating Reels, you have access to a set of editing tools allowing you to add engaging and fun dynamics to your video footage. The resulting creations can incorporate multiple video clips, filters, captions, interactive backgrounds, stickers and more.

Stories
Instagram Stories are vertical, full-screen photos and video uploads that disappear after 24 hours. They appear at the top of the Instagram app, rather than in the news feed.
Stories incorporate interactive tools, such as stickers, polls, and Instagram Story filters to make your content really pop.
After 24 hours, once your Instagram Story has disappeared, you can still access insights, including reach and impressions.
Instagram Lives
Instagram Live gives you the opportunity to video stream via the in-built camera on your mobile device. It’s great for building engagement, connecting directly with your fans, sharing news, and establishing your brand as an artist. Plus, with the feature Live Rooms, you can now go live with up to 3 other people. Once finished, Instagram Live videos can be shared for 30 days before they are automatically deleted.
