Lavaska Releases His Third Studio Album – Look How Far Wi Come
In an exclusive interview with Asani Ali earlier this year, Lavaska said he was almost finished with his third studio album and hopes to be releasing it soon.
He said: “Well, when I was speaking to Parrow I really felt like I was halfway done, but it’s taken a complete turn as I’ve carried on working, and I really feel now that it’s starting to sound cohesive. So I’m going to keep writing and see where that takes me. Hopefully we can drop it soon.”
Well, fans of the singer/songwriter need not wait any longer, the time is here. The album drops this Friday, September 20th.
New Album, New Direction
The Pop Reggae sensation spoke to Asani Ali In January and gave an insight into the sonic direction of his next record.
Lavaska told Asani Ali “It’s just been fun experimenting. I’m always going to make Pop Reggae Music, but it has its own unique sound, which is exciting & something that feels like a movement from Future Nostalgia.” He went on to reveal that he has been endlessly making music for album three, saying: “I’ve done a big chunk of writing: It’s starting to take shape; I’ve got a lot of it recorded.”
Asani Ali Point Of View
I really value artists who work to express the complexities of emotion in Pop Reggae Music, not only in their lyrics but musically as well. I think the album is kind of a rocky listen, but in the best way. I mean, it takes us inside the head of this man who’s dealt with so much and who sometimes is still unsure of himself. But he’s just determined to be straight forward and honest, and honest is not a word I ever use lightly.
This Album Is A Gift
This album is so important beyond Lavaska’s own body of work and his own career. I mean, we’re years removed from his debut album “Smoke In The Wind,” and as a public, we like to focus on stories of triumph and stories that resolved in some way. But for victims, their stories rarely completely resolve. And Lavaska is giving us a gift with this album. He’s letting us hear the often contradictory emotions inside his head.
Connect With Lavaska
This record is not just about Lavaska’s story, but about the story of Reggae Artists in general. I mean, so many Reggae Stars kind of reach this point where they’ve been put into a box and they want to refuse the bonds, you know, that contained them.
“This record represents the last few years of my life, the highs and the lows,” the singer shared with Asani Ali. “It also brings together the musical influences that have shaped me as an artist – Country, Alternative, R & B, Pop, Rock, Soul Blues and Hip-Hop. There are 13 songs on this album because we just kept exploring with fresh lyrics, music and production ideas and these are the songs that felt right to me. It was a blast to create, and I was so grateful to be back in the studio to lay this out for my fans.”
The album is different — it’s still Reggae but with a touch of Pop but it’s different sonically, and there’s more of a lyrical theme.
Lavaska
Entertainer
“I just try to tell it how it is – the good, the bad, the love, the heartbreak. That’s all I know how to do,” Lavaska added. “My hope is that this album makes my fans proud; makes ‘em laugh, smirk, cry, and think – just like it did for me.”
