Junior Biggs Changes His Name To Yatta Stoky And Drops A New Album – Out In The Streets
Dancehall and reggae vocalist Yatta Stoky formerly known as Junior Biggs comes to Digital Platforms this Friday with his new album “Out In The Streets,” Produced by the Miami Based Music Label, The Crichton Clique under the leadership of Courtney ‘Blemo’ Crichton.
Written and recorded at Chrichton Studios in Montego Bay, Jamaica, the album celebrates 37 years since the release of Yatta Stokys’ first single King Of Love on Fatman Riddim Section and features 7 tracks from across his career, including some new never released singles.
“Sweet Like Sugar” is the first track on the album, the racing repetitive keyboard hook is intoxicating, followed by the steady flow of uptempo drum and bass makes you want to get up and dance. The strings, along with the backing vocals from the choir give this song a whole feeling of intensity and a real R & B and Pop Reggae Feel.
Let’s Give It A Try Sets The Tone Of The Album
It is just, outstandingly beautiful, and Yatta’s vocals can touch your soul and feel very fitting. As cheesy as it might be to say, the song had me singing along and on occasions I found myself up and skanking the first time I heard it and continues to have the same effect no matter how many times I play it. An amazing song which sets the tone for the rest of the album.
“Don’t Go” is a euphoric song which has a tribal, almost mantra-like feel to the lyrics which echoes Yatta’s description of it being “a simple prayer to be possessed by the love of his woman”. The orchestra and choir work to amplify it’s anthemic power. The addition of this song on the album which sits perfectly alongside the other tracks shows how Yatta Stoky is constantly evolving and moving forward as an artist whilst having the utmost respect for who he is. This single is one of the best he has ever released.
The Crichton Clique Touch
Heart Breaker was written by Yatta after the love of his life moved on leaving him with a broken heart. You can hear Yatta’s Strong Tenor Voice echoing over the keyboards as he sings “Girl I don’t like the games you play, you give me a piece of your love and then you walk away. You say I should just take it as a gift, being another victim on your list, you no longer answer when I call, even though I gave you my all, why are you treating me like this, knowing how much I miss your tender kiss, your love I can’t resist. I wonder what makes her into a heart breaker.” Blemo has created space for the keys and the other instruments and allows Yatta’s distinctive and textured voice to take center stage.
Expression In The Music
It’s Too Late is the follow up to Heart Breaker where Yatta finds himself sitting around wondering and waiting for his love to return even though he knows it is too late. Yatta has described the lost of his love as a beautiful life experience and lesson. Of grief he says it “is an expression of how much you love that person. I embrace grief and it is a medal of love”. The feeling of love and grief and the outpouring of emotion in this version is heightened by the slower pace of the song, the soaring strings and the amazing chemistry and harmonies between Yatta’s Voice and Blemo’s Melody. This added beauty reinforcing Yattas’s view on Life and Love.

“Out In The Streets,” the title track is a pleasant and refreshing track on this album. It is a favorite of mine. The uptempo drum and bass sound with sometimes screaming guitars and keyboard progression has the feel of a Peter Tosh Number. The guitar hook is amazing and heightens Yatta’s tender and soaring vocals.
For me this song encapsulates what Blemo has done on this album – taking something familiar and much loved by Yatta’s fans and reinventing it in a way which defies all expectations. Genius.
Ya Man, ah the original Junior Biggs, my brethren. Talented aya. I just laid the foundation and he did the rest. I can give him any track and he will flow to it. He is a genius.

I cannot stop listening to this album. There are so many layers and details to these songs and I am still discovering more after numerous listens. My advice is to shut yourself away, pop on some headphones and lose yourself in the pure musical magic – let yourself be Opened By Out In The Streets.
