I One Drops New Album On The Crichton Clique Record Label – Hotter Fire
As a distinctive singer-songwriter, producer and artistic director who originally came from Jamaica, I One has clearly overcome many personal challenges on the long and winding road to where he is right now, firmly established with a base in Miami, Florida.
With roots founded in the study of music and his own personal battles in life, both this early musical teaching and his wider education lead him to seek other avenues to channel the talents which were yet to be fully visible to the outside world. It was then that an obsession for writing poetry and composing music took over, which eventually led to I One’s relocation to Miami.
I One had already developed a powerful and distinctive vocal style which melded perfectly with his early leanings towards deep Roots Reggae Songs fashioned on his keyboards and Bass.

But it was clearly the attraction of the creativity, diversity and energy within the Miami scene that fostered a greater sense of ambition in his work and also provided him with the opportunity to meet and collaborate with a whole range of musicians, singers and artists who would help to shape his immediate future, none more so than musician and producer Courtney ‘Blemo’ Crichton.
It was through the collaboration with Blemo that the songs within his new album Hotter Fire emerged, presenting a very personal and passionate view on the personal challenges and journey I One had been experiencing. As I One explains, “I wrote ‘Hotter Fire ’ after someone broke into my studio and stole most of my music equipment, plus the aftermath of problems in the family, as well as acknowledging and accepting my continuing cognitive challenges.
Finding His Identity
These songs are about my identity and trying to navigate the cycles of life, as well as my fascination with an awe of the universe, space and time in all its mysterious ways.” With I one making productive use out of the extra time and space that lock down had provided to further develop this material, he also took the opportunity to reconnect with his classical roots as well as channeling all the various forms of music that had influenced him over the years, ranging from Bob Marley, through Jimmy Cliff, the Temptations, Otis Redding all the way back to Nina Simone and Billie Holiday.
Soulful And Emotional
Wrap this up with his love for film scores and the added orchestration and production provided by Blemo, what we end up in Hotter Fire is a collection of songs full of emotional impact and dramatic interpretation as I One lays bare his own personal feelings and struggles. The Suffering is an emotional and impassioned story about maintaining one’s sanity in the fearful uncertainty of the present day, something which will resonate with so many of us at the present time. As I One sings in his powerful and uniquely soulful voice “Soon one day to come all this suffering will be done.”

The song Suffering is overlaid with a compelling and evocative soundtrack which builds into bold and climactic choruses which have a dramatic intensity normally reserved for the likes of Lavaska in Changes.
Keep Your Focus On Jah is embroiled in emotional turmoil as I One declares “Don’t let bad mind people get you out, Don’t let what you don’t have get you out, just keep your focus on Jah.” It evokes a very dark and moody sense of claustrophobia and the intense emotional impact of I One’s powerful and expansive vocal range combined with the spine-tingling cinematic orchestrations are something to behold.
These songs are about my identity and trying to navigate the cycles of life, as well as my fascination with an awe of the universe, space and time in all its mysterious ways.

Entertainer
With a sense of resignation, title track Hotter Fire follows as a more sombre and emotive take which is enhanced with huge sweeping strings and a majestic choral arrangement.
