Belizean Superstar Eljai Re-Releases Da Rebirth Album On Asani Ali Music
Eljai’s debut CD, “Da Rebirth”, was recorded in 2006 with the production help of musician/producer Fabian Cooke and master drummer Carlton “Santa” Davis, who was part of the Soul Syndicate band.
“Angel Of Mine”, a single taken from that album, was a big hit that year and went to number 1 on the British Reggae Charts where it remained for 17 weeks. Also the track “I just Wanna Know”, a soulful R&B, Reggae, Pop Flavored sound(song) gained a lot of chart and media attention. Eljai had another breakthrough year in 2008 when he hit the Jamaican charts with his single “Don’t Leave”.
His sophomore studio album “I Know” featured production from various producers. With the album’s single “The Leaders”, Eljai reached #1 on the Jamaican Weekly Music Countdown Reggae Singles Chart and also hit reggae charts in Italy, Holland, The UK, New York, and Florida. Then Eljai released a 4 song EP “Empress”, “If You Really” (featuring E-Dee), “From This Day” and the hit song “24/7”.
Why is Eljai Re-Releasing His Album – Da Rebirth? What Is Next?
The singer is re-recording and re-releasing his old records after one of his former producers sold his back catalog of music for an undisclosed sum. According to the artist, one of his former producer sold his first two albums to a UK based publishing company.
Eljai has made several attempts to get back his masters to no avail. According to Eljai, the deal was done without his consent or his knowledge. “Never in my wildest nightmare did I imagine that he would do this to me” Eljai said when explaining the situation. He continued, “Essentially, my music legacy has been sold by someone I considered a friend, someone who I trusted, but now I find out, this person is someone who is trying to dismantle my legacy.
The Early Years
In the early 1990’s Eljai teamed up with Carl and Delly McGregor to form the R & B Group Belize. The group was signed to Prince’s Paisley Park Record Label where they recorded their first album. Belize was later signed to Warner Brothers where the wrote and released “I’m Looking Out For You”, the theme song for the hit Television Series “Real Stories Of The Highway Patrol”.
Solo Act
After the group broke up, Eljai launched his solo career. “I love music, music is my life, from the time I can remember, I have always been doing music, I don’t know what I would do without music, so when the group split up, it was a natural move for me to go out on my own. That’s what I know.” He explains. “I write good music. take a listen and I am sure you would agree.”
Connect With Eljai
Eljai signed a deal with Asani Ali Music allowing him to keep the rights to his new music. Since then, he has released three new singles, an EP, and two re-recorded albums.
Meaning Eljai has ownership of his old music, as it is re-recorded and re-distributed under a new contract with a new music label. So now when his new-old-tracks are streamed on music streaming platforms or used in advertisements he, instead of the publishing company his albums were sold to profit.
There is a reason it is called the Music Business, I had to learn this the hard way. People always say they have your back, but in the end, they are only looking out for their best interest. You gotta look out for you cause no one else would.
Eljai
Entertainer
How many of his former work will he re-record? Eljai has already re-recorded and re-released two of his previous albums, fans can expect more of his previous works from the artist. According to a reliable source, Eljai will be re-recording all of his earlier works including works for the days he was signed to Prince’s Paisley Park Label, and Warner Brothers.
The “Angel of Mine” singer is set to re-record “I’m Looking Out For You” from the TV Hit series ‘ Real Stories Of The Highway Patrol’, “Blessed”, and “Sweet Belize”, which were all released under his previous label ownership.
