Paul Kastick
One would have thought that Paul Kastick (GrooveGalore Productions) was born with a pair of drumsticks in his hands. Having been fascinated by the forces of music and various instruments throughout his childhood, such as the piano, keyboards, bass and horns, it would be the drums that intrigued Kastick the most.
The era of training that lead him to become a successful music producer was, as Kastick would say, “real life”. He would come to bring this into his own interpretation of “the groove”. Having always been young and pure at heart, he remains adventurous and versatile in his approach. Now in his innovative prime, his only quest is to be groovier & more cutting edge with his creative talent, pushing and breaking down the boundaries of music.
Kastick has been in overdrive since his career took off in 1989 when he was chosen to rule the “Drummer’s Chair” for Jamaica’s top backing band 809. Kastick has never looked back.
Since then, as a drummer, director and producer his repertoire includes a myriad of musical hits. Kastick’s inspiration stems from many, but not only, reggae legend Bob Marley and he continues to work with Marley’s Grammy nominated son Ky-Mani Marley, with Marley’s upcoming album release anticipated in mid-2015. Kastick has sustained a long time, fruitful collaboration with Grammy nominated reggae/pop/R&B artist Maxi Priest touring and producing since 2000 and continues with his 2014 album Easy to Love. Kastick also launched Tessanne Chin and her debut album In Between Words into celebrity status when he co-produced Jamaica’s hottest female reggae/punk/rock export. Tessanne rose to international fame (www.MySpace.com/TessanneChin) by becoming season 5 winner of the Emmy award winning show “The Voice”.
When he’s not touring, he’s recording in his creative nest, the GrooveGalore studio. Kastick’s long-term work with Diana King writing and producing on many singles since 1995 and now most recently her 2011 album A Girl Named King. He continues to tour and create new sounds with King with the release of her new album later this year. He has worked on major productions of all of the Big Mountain’s CD releases; Things to Come (2000), One Love (2001), Cool Breeze (2001), New Day (2002) Covers In Paradise (2003) , Big Mountain’s Greatest Moments (2004) (www.BigMountainOneLove.com), singles cover of Toots & The Maytals “Reggae Got Soul“ (2014), collaboration with Big Mountain and Jed Leiber (son of legendary song writer Jeff Leiber) single (2011) and most recently Blue Skies (2014). He has played, recorded and toured with GrooveSociety, the original backing force behind Shaggy, from 1996-2000. In addition, now Kastick anchors the big bad, cutting edge, live drum sound programming behind Maxi Priest, Ky-Mani Marley, Beres Hammond, Big Mountain, Diana King under the alias GrooveGalore.
Up and coming pop artist Teylah James from Adelaide, Australia and Faraji, an outstanding alternative R&B/soul sound (debut single Sensimilla in 2012 and 2nd single Come Again in 2013) are both benefiting from Kastick’s production expertise with album releases due in 2015.
His repertoire includes having toured, recorded and played alongside such musical greats as the late great Dennis Brown, Shaggy, Rayvon, UK pop sensation Apache Indian, Percy Sledge, Gwen Guthrie, Diana King, Aswad, Steel Pulse, Freddie McGregor Gregory Isaacs, Judy Mowatt, Capleton, Luciano, Buju Banton, Soul Case, Janna Bent, Beenie Man, Shabba Ranks, Chaka Demus & Pliers, Tony Rebel, Sizzla, Junior Kelly, Beres Hammond, Terry Linen, Carlene Davis, Junior Tucker, Leon & The Peoples, Bat-Sheva Japanese, DJ Nahki and R&B sensation Sharissa.
Kastick has always had a lot to say and he’ll keep saying it through music.
