Paranoid

Hailing from Clarendon, Jamaica, Paranoid is a seasoned veteran in the music industry, known for his soulful and infectious reggae sound. Growing up in Cassia Park, Kingston, he was surrounded by reggae legends like Bunny Wailer, Dean Fraser, Gibby “Dub” Morrison, Lloyd Parks, Beres Hammond, and Junior Reid, who inspired him to pursue his musical passion.

Influenced by iconic figures such as Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Jimmy Cliff, and Burning Spear, Paranoid developed a unique sound that would become his signature in the reggae genre. He later moved to Miami, Florida, and became associated with Star Trail Records, where he collaborated with various artists, including Screwdriver.

A pivotal moment in his career came when he started working with Tarrus Riley, who was a DJ at the time, and Lavaska, then known as Little General. Together, as part of the Yaman Music and The Crichton Clique, they achieved success with Lavaska’s debut album “Smoke in The Wind.”

The Yaman Music Crew, consisting of Blemo, Parrow, Asani Ali, and Ricky D, was affectionately called “Four the Hard Way” due to their inseparable bond.

Paranoid played a significant role in the musical journey of Tarrus Riley and Lavaska, contributing to the writing, production, and release of two more successful albums on the Yaman Music Label: “Living Every Word” (2000) and “Look How Far Wi Come.”

Despite reaching great heights of success in the 1990s, Paranoid and Lavaska decided to step away from the music scene for reasons unknown. He embarked on a 20-year hiatus, during which he pursued various professions, including construction. However, fate had other plans for him.

In a surprising turn of events, Paranoid experienced an epiphany during a winter day while seeking warmth in a portable toilet at a work site in Alabama. He found himself speaking aloud and releasing thoughts that had been lingering in the corners of his mind. This revelation gave birth to his smash single “Above and Beyond,” released on Friday, November 20, 2020.

“Above and Beyond” serves as a testament to Paranoid’s personal and creative evolution within Jamaica’s vibrant reggae scene, where live stage shows are a prominent form of entertainment and reggae music dominates local airwaves. The song captures the essence of Jamaican culture’s diversity, with its slogan “Out of Many, One People,” and resonates with a global audience, spreading the pleasures of pop-reggae music.

Following the success of “Above and Beyond,” Paranoid released another thoughtful and brutally honest track, “Fragrance.” The song’s poignant lyrics reflect his feelings of longing and love, and he hopes it serves as a universal anthem of love and appreciation for women worldwide.

Looking ahead, Paranoid aims to bring back the essence of reggae music, infusing it with hope, love, unity, and positivity. His music is not just about personal expression but also about inspiring and uplifting his listeners. With a deep commitment to his craft, Paranoid is determined to provide the world with the music they need, reminding them of the inherent niceness found within reggae’s rhythm and message.
