MUSS

Illuminating Hip Hop’s African Soul.

Hailing from the vibrant and culturally rich Ivory Coast, MUSS is a dynamic Hip Hop artist and rapper who has left an indelible mark on the global music scene. Born into a musical family, MUSS first emerged as a teenage sensation, alongside his brothers MAD and AS, as a member of the chart-topping group M.A.M. Formed in the early 1990s under the guidance of their older brother and producer Tony Adams, M.A.M swiftly gained widespread acclaim with their groundbreaking albums “Hold Up” and “Lumière,” effortlessly blending rap, soul, and offbeat coupé.

The group’s infectious sound resonated with audiences not only in their native Ivory Coast but also across France and West Africa, propelling them to international fame. Signed to the esteemed Record Label Boss Play, which was masterminded by their brother Adam “Toney” Sankara, M.A.M became a household name, setting new standards for African hip hop.

In 1996, the group ventured to France, captivating audiences with their electrifying performances. The following year, they released “New Concept,” earning a prestigious nomination at the 1998 Kora Awards in the category of “Best Hope,” solidifying their position as rising stars in the music industry. And in 2010, M.A.M resurfaced with a highly anticipated album, recorded across continents from Abidjan and Libreville to Paris, New York, and Los Angeles. Collaborating with luminaries like Jacob Desvarieux, Edgar Yonkeu, and Nayanka Bell, M.A.M delivered yet another masterpiece that showcased their versatility and creativity.

As MUSS ventured into his solo career, he continued to carry the torch of M.A.M’s musical legacy. With his debut single “Boss Playa,” MUSS made an unforgettable impact, garnering widespread acclaim and becoming the anthem for the renowned Boss Play record label. His artistry and lyrical prowess set him apart, and he found himself collaborating with his brother MAD on numerous hit songs, including the infectious tracks “Tchangue,” “Frotter Frotter,” “Africario,” and “Salut.”

MUSS’s boundary-pushing collaborations didn’t stop there; he joined forces with Nyanda from the esteemed group Brick and Lace for electrifying tracks like “Slippery When Wet” and “You Got Me Good.” Additionally, his hit single “Wanna Be With You,” a mesmerizing collaboration with his label mate Lloyd Reign, further solidified MUSS’s reputation as a versatile and innovative artist.

Beyond his musical brilliance, MUSS’s journey reflects the essence of African soul, weaving stories of triumph, unity, and resilience through his melodic tapestries. His art transcends borders and brings together people from diverse backgrounds under the universal language of music.

As MUSS continues to shape the trajectory of Hip Hop in the Ivory Coast and beyond, his unwavering dedication to his craft and the legacies of M.A.M and Boss Play stand as a testament to his enduring impact on the world of music. With every verse and every beat, MUSS illuminates the spirit of African Hip Hop, leaving an eternal groove on the hearts of music enthusiasts everywhere.
